Biography/Wiki

Babu Gogineni was born as Rajaji Ramanadha Babu Gogineni on 14 April 1968 (aged 50) in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. He was raised in a liberal atmosphere and has been an atheist since his childhood.

His first name “Rajaji” was taken from his biggest source of inspiration, C. Rajagopalachari, who was not only the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu but also the first and last Indian Governor General of India after Lord Mountbatten left India in 1948.

Such was his interest in learning foreign languages that when he reached the age of 17, he became the youngest certified French language teacher in India, after completing his diploma course with the Alliance Française. In 1987, he got his first exposure to the humanist movement on the occasion of the birth centenary of Indian revolutionary, MN Roy, on 21 March in Dehradun.
He taught French for around 11 years and even worked at administrative positions for various events held in India. During this period, he also went on a trip to Europe, where he discovered numerous things related to humanism and its contribution to nation building. In the 1990s, he was was part of various rationalist associations in Hyderabad and Mumbai. In 1997, he went to the United Kingdom, where he had worked as an Executive Director with the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). After his return to Hyderabad, he transformed himself as a science populariser, humanist, rationalist, and human rights activist, taking inspiration from Carl Sagan, one of America’s most famous scientific visionary.

Family, Caste & Wife

Babu Gogineni was born and raised in a middle-class liberal Hindu-Kamma Telugu family of Hyderabad. His father, Gurubabu was a farmer and political enthusiast, whereas, his mother Aruna Kumari was a homemaker.

Career

Babu Gogineni was always a bright student and did his schooling from Little Flower High School, Hyderabad. He did his Bachelor of Science from Nizam College, Hyderabad, Postgraduate Diploma in International Trade from Bhavan’s Rajendra Prasad Institute of Communication & Management, Hyderabad, MA in Sociology from Osmania University (Distance Education), and MA in Human Rights from Pondicherry University (Distance Education).
After becoming a certified French language teacher at the age of just 18, he worked as a teacher for around 11 years, after which he went to the United Kingdom, where he rediscovered humanism and rationalism. From 1997 to 2015, he was associated with the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). Later, he founded South Asian Humanist Association and is focusing on building it. He also founded Skillguru, an organisation that provides soft skills training.  He became a household name among the Telugu people after he hosted The Big Question with Babu Gogineni (2015-2017), a multi-language TV series related to the impact of humanism on science and civilization.
In 2018, he reached the heights of his fame after he participated in Bigg Boss Telugu 2.

  • He takes a lot of interest in travelling, reading and watching movies.
